LAKE BONDHUS

The gravel road from Isvegen to Lake Bondhus (190m above sea level) was originally built in 1863 to transport ice from the Bondhusbreen Glacier down to the fjord for export. It is now maintained as a local attraction. The area is a magnet for casual tourists and mountain hikers in a spectacular landscape. For the intrepid, we can follow further along the lake to a path up to the Vetledalen valley, 320m AMSL, where we can make a closer approach to the Bondhusbrea Glacier itself.

The round trip to Lake Bondhus takes about 2 hours from the parking in Sundal. The longer route including hiking to the moraine fields (Vetledalen) under the Bondhusbrea Glacier takes about 4 hours.
