In May and June Hardanger is an unforgettable sight with its blossoming orchards, shimmering glaciers and deep-blue fjords. If you have not yet experienced Hardanger, then it is about time.
We start our trip in Rosendal.
Charming Rosendal Turisthotell from 1887 will be the base for your days in Hardanger.
Rosendal Event offers a culture and nature experience in May/June with snow-capped mountains, green lakes, roaring waterfalls and flower blossom.
We will start our adventure with a small hike to Guddal, visiting Gallery G. Guddal. Gøril has renovated an old barn on the well-kept farm to a modern gallery. Her homemade cakes are amazing and we will try some of them with a cup of coffee before returning to Rosendal.
At the restaurant Martha Meidell we will enjoy a three-course dinner in the evening.
After breakfast we drive our minibus north along the Hardangerfjord. The bus stops at Furebergfossen, with a beautiful and heavy water flow due to melting snow. Longer into Mauranger we do a turn into Bondhusdalen, where we get a glimpse of the blue glacier in Bondhusbreen. The area is known for Isveien and Keiserstien. Sundal and Mauranger were among the most visited tourist attractions in Norway during the turn of the century, 18/1900, due to trips up to and across Folgefonna.
We continue through the tunnel to Jondal, where we take a short coffee brake. Jondal is a cosy little village known for the entrance to the summer ski resort at the glacier.
We will drive through flowering fields and blossom cherry and apple trees around Folgefonna peninsula for lunch at charming Utne hotel. The hotel is Norway's oldest hotel that has been in continuous operation since 1722.
After lunch we continue southwards to Bleie. At Bleie we visit Alde Cideri, where it is possible to taste and buy cider and fresh apple juice.
The minibus continues to Odda, then we turn off at Eitrheim and take the 11 km long Folgefonntunellen west towards Austrepollen.
From the innermost of Mauranger to Rosendal it takes about 30 minutes before we return to Rosendal.
The whole trip is scheduled for 7 to 8 hours.
After an exciting day we will enjoy a nice dinner at hotel in the evening.
After breakfast at the hotel we visit the Barony from 1665. We stroll through the beautiful Renaissance Gardens from the 18th century. If desired, we can get a guided tour inside the castle.
At the harbour in Rosendal we will visit Folgefonna National Park Center. A modern adventure center and research base for Folgefonna and aquaculture in Hardanger.
